Florida’s Constitution Revision Commission met in organizational session on Monday, March 20, 2017, in the Florida Senate Chambers.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott, Senate President Joseph Negron, House Speaker Richard Corcoran, and Chief Justice Labarga provided brief remarks and introduced appointees. All 37 members of the Constitution Revision Commission were sworn in by Chief Justice Labarga. Jeff Woodburn was introduced as executive director of the commission, and proposed rules and procedures were discussed.

The dates for the first few public comment meetings were announced:

  • March 29 – Orange County
  • April 6 – Miami-Dade County
  • April 7 – Palm Beach County

More public meetings are expected to be scheduled around the state.

Review of the state constitution occurs every 20 years in Florida, per constitutional mandate. Florida’s 2017-18 Constitution Review Commission members were selected earlier this month.
