All women should have five basic legal documents prepared in the event of incapacity or death, Brown says.

One of the five is a HIPAA release, which authorizes health care providers to release your protected health information to your designees. This may be helpful if others need to determine your capacity or provide your medical information to insurance companies or medical care providers.
