Carrie Hanna, Gunster’s Chief Strategy Officer, was interviewed by the Association of Legal Administrators for “The Future Firm: New positions for legal leaders and the evolution of the business of law,” published in the October/November issue of its Legal Management magazine.

According to the article, law firms are responding to the need to be more efficient and competitive in nontraditional ways: moving toward a business model approach and including nonlawyer professionals in the management of the firm’s business, which often means the addition of business development and marketing departments within firms.

Hanna, who has provided Gunster with strategic marketing direction since 1991, told Legal Management that in coming years, law firms will continue to take a more corporate, proactive and strategic approach to running the business. She also indicated the need for technology to be integrated into the effort.

Also interviewed on business trends in law firm management were Stuart Dodds, Director of Global Pricing at Baker & McKenzie Global Services; Michael Byrd, Director of Pricing Strategy and Legal Project Management at Mayer Brown LLP; and Warren Pinkerton, Chief Strategy Officer at Novak Druce & Quigg LLP.
