PALM BEACH, Fla. (June 13, 2008) — The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society concluded its annual Man & Woman of the Year campaign presented by Palm Beach Illustrated. The Grand Finale took place at The Cohen Pavilion on Friday, June 6, 2008 and drew a crowd of 200 friends and supporters for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

On hand to meet and greet the guests were Honorary Chairmen JP Hervis and Kristin Hoke, morning anchors of WPBF News Channel 25, and Event Co-Chairmen, Dr. Melissa Singer, the 2007 National Woman of the Year, and Cara Catalfumo, the 2007 Runner-up National Woman of the Year. This year’s candidates raised funds in honor of Jarod Malnik, Boy of the Year, and Daisy Healey, Girl of the Year, who attended the event with their families.

Seven candidates were able to raise more than $145,000 during their ten week fundraising campaign. These seven candidates were Marybeth Bochel of The Gift Basket Café, Karen Counes of the South Florida Water Management District, Susan Guilbert of Verizon Wireless, Kelley Herrmann of Regions Bank, Nitasha Kadam of KaBloom, Daniel Kotok of Dale and Thomas Popcorn, and Andrew Wieseneck of Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart, PA. Of course, there can be only one man and one woman who were crowned with the title.

Susan Guilbert of Verizon Wireless was named Woman of the Year and Andrew Wieseneck of Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart, PA was named Man of the Year.

Palm Beach Illustrated, the event’s Presenting Sponsor, provided prize packages for the winners, which included two weekend getaways courtesy of The Abaco Club on Winding Bay. All proceeds generated by the event will be used by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to fund their mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and to improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
