Donald J. Beuttenmuller Jr., January 12, 2021

Our firm is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague and dear friend, Donald J. Beuttenmuller Jr. Don was Gunster’s former managing shareholder, general counsel and a close friend to all. Don passed away on January 12, 2021.

Don dedicated himself and his work to preserve the unique culture of Gunster. He joined the firm as a litigator in 1980, and in 2000, he took on management responsibilities. From 2002 –2008, Don led the firm with a steady hand as its managing shareholder. After his tenure as managing shareholder, Don became the firm’s general counsel, where he became a mentor and confidant to many attorneys and maintained a watchful eye.

In August 2020, the firm celebrated his 40th anniversary with Gunster. Don gave much of his time and life to this very special place that he cherished. He was always watchful, always on duty and always looking out for the best interests of the firm and for each of us.

Don held Gunster in his heart. His optimism for Gunster and its people was unbridled.  His praise for Gunster lawyers, effusive.  His service and devotion to our firm, unending.  Don saw the gifts that Gunster provides to its attorneys as a bequest for all of us to do better, to be better, and to serve our clients in the best way possible. Don’s wisdom, quick wit, institutional knowledge and big heart will be missed.

Don leaves behind his loving wife Marilyn, his daughter, Margie, and son, Buck, and their spouses, in addition to numerous grandchildren, whom he adored.

To honor his generous spirit and legacy, The Don Beuttenmuller Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to support Cardinal Newman High School in Palm Beach County. Don was was a member of the first freshman class of Cardinal Newman High School, where he served as class president for all four years. Don excelled at athletics, namely football, earning the MPV award as a lineman.
