890 NE Ocean Blvd. Stuart, Florida 34996

The South Florida Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel will participate in the Florida Oceanographic Oyster Restoration project on Saturday, August 23.

Participants will work in teams to bag oyster shells (donated by local restaurants), which will be put into mesh bags and used in the St. Lucie River and Indian River Lagoon estuaries to create oyster shell reefs. Later, Florida Oceanographic staff will populate the shell reefs with growing oysters. The oysters are critical to the health of these waterways. Oysters help clean the water; a single adult oyster can filter up to 50 gallons of water per day. They also provide habitat and food for more than 300 estuarine species.

The Florida Oceanographic Society is a nonprofit founded in 1964 to inspire environmental stewardship of Florida’s coastal ecosystems through education and research. It runs a 57-acre marine life nature center located on Hutchinson Island in Stuart. See the organization’s website for more information about the oyster restoration project.

The Association of Corporate Counsel serves the professional needs of in-house counsel and is a source of information, networking opportunities and education for the in-house legal practitioner. Gunster is proud to sponsor the organization and this event.

For more information, see the oyster restoration event page on the ACC Association of Corporate Counsel website, or email [email protected].
