You are invited to join Gunster's George S. LeMieux on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, for the Broward County Public Schools' debate initiative luncheon.
The Broward County debate initiative is a partnership between local businesses and school debate programs within Broward County. Now in its fifth year of implementation, the initiative includes more than 90 schools and almost 10,000 students. Every county public middle and high school, three technical colleges, 12 elementary schools, and three alternative schools now have debate programs. The initiative is grounded in research that shows the positive impact participation in debate has on student achievement.
For more information, email Maureen Jaeger, director of community relations at Gunster or email the schools' Applied Learning Department.
Clothing drive
In late August, 232 students were given professional outfits for the 2016-2017 competitive season. Unfortunately, the supply is now extremely low and dwindling rapidly. You can help the students in our local debate community by participating in our professional clothing drive. At the Oct. 19 luncheon (or before, via the K.C. Wright School Board Building), we are collecting new or nearly new suits, other business professional apparel, shoes, handbags, jewelry, and unused cosmetics. Any attendees who donate at the luncheon will receive a special thank you gift.

Additionally, on Oct. 20, LeMieux will be one of three honorees for the Broward Education Foundation Hall of Fame - Distinguished Alumni awards breakfast beginning at 7:30 a.m.
The ceremony recognizes alumni of the Broward County Public Schools system who have left an incredible imprint on education, made significant contributions to society or have been recognized for outstanding achievement in any field.
