WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (April 30, 2009) — Florida Governor Charlie Crist today appointed Meenu Sasser, a litigation attorney and shareholder at the Gunster law firm in West Palm Beach, to the 15th Judicial Circuit Court. Sasser will fill the vacancy created by Justice Jorge Labarga, who was recently named to the Florida Supreme Court.
“Meenu’s 14 years of practicing complex litigation in a wide variety of cases, in addition to her excellent legal and writing skills, will help her apply the law in a consistent and fair manner,” said Governor Crist. “In addition, her leadership and experience working with various community, professional and charitable activities will enhance her ability to effectively rule from the bench.”
Sasser, who has practiced with Gunster since 1995 and is Board Certified in business litigation, concentrates her practice in business and general civil litigation, intellectual property litigation, professional liability defense, employment litigation and non-compete disputes. She also has spearheaded significant initiatives to promote minorities in law.
“It’s an honor to be selected to this post and I am humbled by this appointment from Governor Crist,” said Sasser.
Currently, Sasser serves on the Board of Directors for the Palm Beach County Bar Association and was its president in 2007-2008, one of only five female presidents in the organization’s 85-year history. In 2008, Sasser served on the Florida Bar Standing Committee on Professionalism as well as its Judicial Administration and Evaluation Committee. Active in a number of community and philanthropic organizations, Sasser currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC) of Palm Beach County and is the vice chair for the School Board of Potentials Charter School.
She earned her bachelor’s of science degree, cum laude with honors, from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and received her juris doctor from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
