All of us at Gunster congratulate our chairman and colleague, George LeMieux, on his appointment to the United States Senate by Governor Charlie Crist. Senator LeMieux will fill the seat recently vacated by retiring U.S. Senator Mel Martinez.

A native Floridian who was raised in Broward County, LeMieux began his career with Gunster and served as its chairman since March 2008. In the interim, he served as Chief of Staff to Gov. Crist and as deputy attorney general for the State of Florida. As chairman of Gunster, LeMieux traveled around the state advising CEO’s and business leaders. He authored The LeMieux Report, an electronic newsletter distributed weekly to thousands of business and governmental leaders that offers the top five business, legal and political stories affecting Florida, with LeMieux’s “bottom line analysis” of each story.

We know that George will fulfill his new role with the same level of energy, integrity and dedication that he has shown to the clients of our firm, and we’re proud to call him our partner, friend, and now our Senator.
Congratulatory words from some of Florida’s leaders:
Governor Charlie Crist:
“George LeMieux has the proven strength of character and record of leadership Floridians can trust will serve our state well in the coming months. I have had the great honor to work with so many hard working public servants who choose to put service above self in ways that inspire and encourage me to continue my commitment to the people each and every day. George LeMieux has been a tremendous example of this very type of commitment.”
U.S. Senator Mel Martinez:
“I congratulate George LeMieux for being appointed by the governor to fill the remainder of my term. George is bright, capable, and an accomplished administrator. My staff and I stand ready to ensure a smooth transition.”
Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer:
“Once again, Charlie Crist has demonstrated his commitment to serving Floridians, by appointing George LeMieux who is well qualified, a dedicated public servant, conservative Republican and an excellent choice!”
Attorney General Bill McCollum:
“I congratulate George LeMieux on his appointment as Florida’s U.S. Senator. I have known George for a long time, both as a friend and as a former Deputy Attorney General, a capacity in which he served this office well. I wish him the best in serving the people of Florida in the U.S. Senate.”
U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler:
“In short, George LeMieux will make an excellent Senator. I wish him great success and look forward to working with him in any way I can.”
Former U.S. Rep. Clay Shaw:
“George is a very, very capable guy and I’m sure he’ll do a good job. He’s a quick study, he’s articulate, he’s very close to the governor. I think it’s a good choice.”
State Rep. Ellyn Bogdanoff:
“He’s a smart guy, politically savvy, a hard worker. There’s nothing negative to say about George … He’s certainly smart enough to wade through the issues.”
Kirk Fordham, head of the Everglades Foundation:
“George LeMieux is the right pick for Florida. He has a deep understanding of a wide range of regional issues that are unique to Florida. When it comes to protecting the people’s water supply and restoring the Everglades, we couldn’t ask for a better ally than we’ll have in Senator George LeMieux.”
