Healthcare Risk Management interviewed Gunster Shareholder Bill Dillon in an article discussing the HHS Office for Civil Rights’ recent bulletin clarifying that covered entities are not permitted to use tracking technologies in a manner that would result in impermissible disclosures of protected health information (PHI).

Dillon points out that the use of such tracking tools and the risk of PHI transmission is likely news to risk managers and compliance officers. “Now that OCR has issued this bulletin, the onus is on covered entities to address the issue promptly,” he cautions.
