The resolutions he mentions include:

  • using the correct corporate entity type for your business to limit personal liability
  • protecting your intellectual property, such as trade secrets, copyrights and more
  • evaluating your firm’s financial needs, anticipating unexpected demands/challenges in the coming year
  • ensuring all important agreements are in writing, and that you understand and agree with every provision in existing contracts.

Bates serves on Gunster’s board of directors and is co-chair of the firm’s technology law and emerging companies legal practices.
