The resolutions he mentions include:

  • using the correct corporate entity type for your business to limit personal liability
  • protecting your intellectual property, such as trade secrets, copyrights and more
  • evaluating your firm’s financial needs, anticipating unexpected demands/challenges in the coming year
  • ensuring all important agreements are in writing, and that you understand and agree with every provision in existing contracts.

Bates serves on Gunster’s board of directors and is co-chair of the firm’s technology law and emerging companies legal practices. For over 25 years, he has counseled clients in the areas of technology, venture capital, licensing and distribution, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate finance and securities.
