Gunster is proud to announce that on April 8th , shareholders Daniel M. Mackler, Danielle DeVito-Huley and Rick Burgess were named as finalists by the editors of the Daily Business Review for the Top Dealmakers of the Year award.
Nearly 80 finalists from 36 companies were selected based on a criteria that included size of the deal, obstacles to overcome, impact and the track record of the nominees. The winners will be announced at a luncheon at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Miami on April 29, 2011, and a special section will be published on May 2, 2011 with details of the deals handled by the finalists.
All three attorneys are being recognized for negotiating and closing one of the most significant land acquisitions by the State of Florida to date. Gunster represented the United States Sugar Corporation (U.S. Sugar), one of the largest producers and refiners of sugar cane and citrus in the United States, which transferred ownership of the agricultural land to the South Florida Water Management District (the District) for $197,398,372.08. This landmark sale took nearly three years to negotiate and close; it involved extensive negotiations, environmental analysis, contract preparation, and title review.
