The Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Foundation hosted the 2016 American Icon Award celebration on Thursday, January 28. Each year, the event benefits the foundation and an award is presented to someone who exemplifies the values that Joe DiMaggio held. This year the award honored Pat Riley, a former NBA player and coach who is also a prominent philanthropist.
Riley played for both the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Diego Rockets during his career. He coached the New York Knicks, the Los Angeles Lakers, and worked as both the president and coach of the Miami Heat.
The Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Foundation supports the hospital with charitable funding and assists patients with costs of treatment.
Past winners of the Icon Award include former President Bill Clinton and Earvin "Magic" Johnson. The American Icon Award celebration took place in Hollywood, Florida at the Diplomat Resort and Spa. Doors opened at 6:30 PM. Gunster was a proud sponsor of the event.
