The Florida Fellows Institute, which launched in 2015, will host 3 events in 2016 beginning with a program covering estate and trust litigation on February 19. The Florida Fellows Institute was created by the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and focuses on educating key industry professionals and developing leaders. Each program focuses on the most important and timely subjects in the trust and estate industry, and each subject is taught by an experienced industry professional.

In 2016 the institute will host the following programs:

  • February 19 in Fort Lauderdale: Estate and Trust Litigation
    • This session's topics will include estate and trust Litigation, complaint vs. petition discovery, including depositions, expert witnesses, recovery of attorney fees, conflicts, ethics and mediation/arbitration.
    • Instructors for this session are Rohan Kelley, Fletcher Belcher, Jack Falk, Jamie Pressley, Bob Goldman, Bill Hennessey and Mike Dribin.
  • April 1 in Tampa: Fiduciary Taxation and Generation-Skipping Transfer Tax
    • This session's topics will focus solely on fiduciary taxation and generation-skipping transfer tax.
    • Instructors for this session are Bill Snyder, Jean Coker and David Powell.
  • May 20 in Fort Lauderdale: Estate and Gift Tax Returns
    • Topics for this session will be estate and gift tax returns, defending reporting, coordination with form 1041 during estate/trust administration, tax apportionment, audit issues, tax court procedures and case law.
    • Instructors are George Karibjanian, Stephanie Loomis-Price, Mickey Davis, Trent Kiziah, Martin Basson, John Porter and Jonathan Blattmachr.

Acceptance into the Florida Fellows Institute is based on a nomination process. Candidates can be nominated on the organization's website. In order to graduate from the program, participants must complete all six sessions. Three of the sessions for the 2015-2016 were completed last year. Corporate sponsorships are available for each season or individual program.
