Join Gunster at the 2019 Supreme Evening on Thursday, February 7 hosted by the Florida Supreme Court Historical Society at the University Center Club in Tallahassee.
The Annual Dinner will feature keynote speaker, former United States Solicitor General Theodore "Ted" Olson, one of the country’s most high-profile and widely respected litigators of the past 50 years. His keynote presentation – “The Supreme Court of the United States, Present and Future” – will highlight Mr. Olson’s keen insights and first-hand experiences from his sixty-three arguments before SCOTUS in cases involving everything from the First Amendment to sports betting to voting rights and same-sex marriage. In addition to Mr. Olson's presentation, attendees will welcome the three newly appointed Supreme Court Justices and receive an update from Chief Justice Charles Canady on the State of the Court.
Gunster appellate law practice co-chair, Kenneth B. Bell, is a former Florida Supreme Court Justice having served from 2002-2008. Prior to serving on Florida’s highest court, Bell was a circuit judge in Florida’s First Judicial Circuit from 1991-2002. In 1991, he became the youngest Circuit Judge in the history of the First Circuit. During his twelve years on the circuit court bench, Bell handled more than 27,500 cases as a general jurisdiction judge, and was actively involved in seeking to improve the judicial system. Preceding his elevation to the judiciary, he was Pensacola’s first board certified real estate attorney.
The Supreme Evening will begin with a reception at 5:30 pm followed by dinner at 7:00 pm.
