The Florida International Bankers Association is hosting the 15th Annual FIBA Anti Money Laundering Compliance Conference in Miami. FIBA is a not-for-profit trade association dedicated  bringing important financial issues to the forefront of the conversation and focusing on international banking and finance.

Gunster, which has been with the conference for many years, is hosting a power breakfast, which comes complimentary with entry to the conference, on March 6. If you are attending the conference, start your day off with a discussion of cross-border income tax investigations. The panel will feature Gunster attorneys Alan Lederman, Lu-Ann Dominguez and Martin Press from the firm's tax practice.

The panel will confront the issue of what is in the future for U.S. financial institutions along with many other issues including expansion of tax treaties, exchange of information agreements and the OEDC Tax Assistance Convention.

Additionally, the panel will discuss:

  • Liberalization of the standards for mandatory exchange of taxpayer information
  • IRS John Doe summonses issued against U.S. banks allegedly holding hidden U.S. accounts of foreign taxpayers
  • Status of FATCA, including possible U.S. reciprocation
  • Trends in individual voluntary disclosure and required information reporting.
  • The IRS Voluntary Disclosure Program for Swiss banks
  • How financial Institutions’ should respond to an IRS summons

All FIBA conference attendees are invited to attend the breakfast panel as part of the agenda. RSVPs are not necessary but make sure to get there early to grab some breakfast before the 7:15 a.m. event begins. The conference this year will take place March 5 and 6 at the Hyatt Regency Miami. There is a fee associated with the conference.
