On June 9, 2022, Gunster Shareholders Holly Goodman and Asghar Syed will speak at a Florida Nonprofit Alliance-hosted webinar regarding the Individual Freedom Act (HB 7), also known as the "Stop WOKE Act."
Governor Ron DeSantis is expected to sign into law the bill commonly referred to as the “Stop WOKE Act.” If signed, effective July 1, 2022, the law will prohibit mandatory employee trainings regarding certain topics that are often discussed or implicated in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) trainings. Under the proposed law, if an organization with 15 or more employees requires an employee to participate in a DEI training, the employee may allege employment discrimination.
Holly and Asghar will address (i) the scope of the proposed law and who it impacts; (ii) the eight topics proscribed in the proposed law; and (iii) any guidance or case law development relevant to the proposed law.
