Looking for some friendly competition while contributing to charity? Join the Jacksonville Area Legal Aid and the Jacksonville Bar Association's Young Lawyers Section on the green for the Tee It Up Golf Tournament at 12 p.m. on Thursday, October 18.
All funds generated at the event will contribute to the endowment created by Jacksonville Area Legal Aid (JALA). This endowment will provide funding to help protect and enhance civil legal aid services for children with medical issues. Furthermore, funds will fuel the partnership between JALA and Northeast Florida Medical Legal Partnership (NFMLP) and their efforts to helps those in need. The endowment principal will be held in perpetuity, while earnings from the invested assets help pay for legal services offered to children with medicolegal needs. These services include access to health insurance and other public benefits, advocacy in family law, consumer protections, immigration, and ensuring safe and affordable housing.
This endowment began from funding generated through Gunster business litigation attorney Michael Freed's “Freed to Run” efforts and has since grown. JALA aims to raise $1 million over the next five years to fund the endowment. In addition to JALA's $1 million, the Baptist Health Foundation will match the $1 million with an additional $1.25 million, bringing the endowment total to $2.25 million and more than doubling the impact.
Gunster business litigation attorney Asghar Syed serves on the board of Baptist Health. He also volunteers his time by staying heavily engaged with the Jacksonville legal and business community through his service on the board of governors for the Jacksonville Bar Association .
In addition, Gunster attorney Megan Moon currently serves on the board of governors for the Young Lawyers Section of the Jacksonville Bar Association. Moon also volunteers her time by serving on the advisory board for the Winston YMCA and as membership chair for the Jacksonville Bar Association.
