One Spark is the largest crowdfunding festival in the world. The event is free and features showcases, food trucks, drinks, live entertainment and more. The projects featured at the event range from art to music and science. Gunster is proud to sponsor this event this year, and has sponsored this event every year since its inception in 2013.
Last year, more than 260,000 people attended the event which featured 610 creator project, 77 venues and 89.5 million impressions on Facebook and Twitter. This year the event will be held April 7 – 12. The event has even spread across the pond to Berlin, where One Spark held an event in September last year.
This year, judges were recently selected for each of the creator categories: art, education, health & science, music, social good and technology. Those juries are responsible for awarding $95,000 to creator projects. That money is just a portion of the $350,000 in total awards in crowdfunds available for creator projects at the event. The other money not awarded by juries is given out based on festival attendee votes.
Gunster attorney Michael Cavendish was selected as one of three jury members for the art category juried award. Cavendish is a member of the firm’s business litigation and banking and financial services practices. Cavendish is a former member of the Florida governor’s transition team and is former general counsel of the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Cavendish is immersed in the Jacksonville community as a member of the board of trustees for the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville, board of directors for the Florida Humanities Council and as former chairman for the Jacksonville Transportation Authority. Cavendish is also an art collector, contributor to DIADEM Art Papers and works in nonprofit art projects in the public and private realm in Duval County.
At the event last year, Gunster hosted a VIP event on the opening day and will do so again on April 8 this year. Make sure to follow the Gunster Jacksonville team as they travel through the days of the event by following @JAXGunster on Twitter.
