The YMCAs of South Florida is hosting its 11th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. “Inspirational Breakfast” on Jan. 16 beginning at 7:35 a.m. The event will honor the diversity ideals and civic engagement of Martin Luther King, as well as honor an individual with a “spirit” award for committing themselves to social activism, scholarship and the same type of leadership and spirit as Dr. King.
The breakfast buffet for the event will start at 7:15 a.m. and will include some healthy options.
The keynote speaker for the event is Dr. C.T. Vivian, a winner of the 2013 Presidential Medal of Freedom and acclaimed civil rights activist. His work in the civil rights movement is depicted in the critically acclaimed movie “Selma.” He is known for his work with Dr. King himself and for the Southern Christian Leadership Organization.
The event, presented by JM Family Enterprises, Inc., will be held at the First Baptist Church Fort Lauderdale. Guests are encouraged to arrive early because parking is limited and doors open at 7 a.m. All proceeds will go to the YMCA programs.
