In a recent Palm Beach Post article, Gunster Shareholder and Real Property Practice Co-Chair, Brian Seymour, discusses a proposed art deco-style apartment complex in West Palm Beach that would be the first to use the state's Live Local Act, which offers incentives for affordable housing.
Seymour notes the Live Local Act can pose some challenges for developers who want to take advantage of its provisions, such as higher building heights and lower rental costs, because it can conflict with local regulations and preferences. However, he praises West Palm Beach for cooperating with developers to create incentives for affordable housing through its own regulations, rather than relying solely on the act.
