Gunster shareholder Michael Marcil was featured in a recent article published by Florida Trend magazine which highlights The Florida Bar’s push for a statewide business court system.
The proposal to create a statewide business court system would create a business court in each of Florida’s five state appellate districts. This would add two judges in each district, creating a total of 10 new judges. This plan was initiated in February by the Business Law Section of The Florida Bar.
Marcil explained the courts are “essential, especially in major metropolitan areas of Florida, because one-size doesn’t fit all for civil cases.”
Marcil also highlighted that business courts can influence not just where a business decides to locate, but also where it files suit and does business generally. Florida has four business courts and many other states already do, as well. Marcil went on to say that the case management process keeps cases on tracks and “things just happen so much more smoothly.”
