Gunster employment attorney Sara N. Huff discusses transgender legal protections in an article published today in the Orlando Business Journal.
What laws are at issue when transgender legal rights are discussed? Huff identifies the Civil Rights Act of 1964, commonly referred to as Title VII, and how it relates to transgender legal protections in the workplace.
In Macy vs. Holder, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission made clear that transgender employees are covered under Title VII, Huff says. ButĀ federal courts remain split on whether the legal protections outlined in Title VII extend to transgender employees.
Huff then goes on to outline issues employers may need to address in this unsettled environment.
