Gunster attorney Keith Sonderling was recently tapped by Florida Trend magazine for an article on the Family and Medical Leave Act, and what it means for employers.
The article, "Leave Time Law," appears in the March 2015 issue of the magazine.
In it, Sonderling lays out who might qualify to take unpaid time off under the Act – and that the law only applies to businesses with 50 or more employees.
What companies and employees may not be aware of is that leave taken under the Act doesn't need to be taken continuously. That is, as the article points out, the hours here and there that an employee needs to, say, drive a loved one to medical appointments, can be included in the up to 12 weeks' allowed in a 12-month period.

Sonderling is a shareholder in Gunster's West Palm Beach office. He focuses his practice on defending corporations and protecting their business interests in employment and complex commercial disputes and litigation.
