In addition to leading the firm, Gunster Managing Shareholder Bill Perry sets a healthy example for the firm's many wellness initiatives.
Every year, the firm participates in the annual Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run events throughout South Florida. Not only does Perry run every year, but in 2015 he won as 1st-place male in the West Palm Beach CEOs category.
Having someone at the top model the importance of healthy lifestyle choices really helps promote the idea through the ranks at Gunster, Dorothy O'Guinn, a paralegal in the firm's Vero office and chair of Gunster's wellness committee, told the South Florida Business Journal.
More than 200 people turned out for the Journal's 2015 Healthiest Employers awards event, held at the Hyatt Pier 66 in Fort Lauderdale on June 4.
Gunster placed third in the medium size category (100-499 employees) at the 2015 awards. Placing first was Nature's Products and second was the city of Tamarac. Gunster's wellness efforts also led to wins in four different Florida regions in 2013.
The firm's latest health initiative is a point-based program in which preventive care doctor visits and participation in wellness activities garner each individual points that can result in paid time off, a health insurance discount, and other rewards. O'Guin told the Journal that 76 percent of Gunster employees signed up for the Wellworks For You program in 2015, and nearly 200 took advantage of the free Fitbits offered.
Wellness initiatives returning to Gunster in 2015 are the popular roving health fairs (that take place at various Gunster offices throughout the state), health coaching, Weight Watchers and more.
