Florida Gov. Rick Scott has been in the news recently over his efforts to bar the state from doing business with any groups that support the regime of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela.

Gunster business litigator Jorge Guttman – also a founding member and current vice president of the Venezuelan American National Bar Association (VENAMBAR) – spoke to several media publications about it.

Implementing a measure such as that proposed by the governor may be difficult to do without running afoul of the law, Guttman tells Law360.

Also, such decisions are typically dealt with at the federal rather than state level, he tells CGTN.

According to the Law360 article, the two largest organizations doing business with Venezuela are Goldman Sachs and Citgo.

Guttman indicates it could be particularly difficult to monitor individuals tied to the Maduro remine that are doing business here.

VENAMBAR, a nonprofit, voluntary bar association established in 2013, focuses on the needs of legal professionals in the United States with an interest in Venezuelan issues.
