Freed to Run 2.0 raises $400K for Jacksonville Area Legal AidThis past past December, Gunster attorney Mike Freed along with more than 100 other runners participated in the second stint of Freed to Run – a six marathons in six days point-to-point relay from Tallahassee to Jacksonville, in support of legal aid. Attorney at Law Magazine featured the second annual philanthropic venture in February, with a focus on the incredible final numbers raised.

In 2017, Freed had a goal of raising $50,000 and exceeded that number when he raised $70,000. In 2018, he sparked Freed to Run 2.0, inviting others to join him in the cause with a goal of raising $180,000 – with Baptist Health joining the partnership to match all donations at 125 percent. All in all, Freed to Run 2.0 raised a grand total of $414,000. The proceeds from Freed to Run 2.0 will go toward a planned $2.25 million endowment for the Northeast Florida Medical Legal Partnership, through which JALA provides free civil legal aid to pediatric patients and their families when referred by one of several participating Northeast Florida health-care institutions. Through the partnership, about 200 children a year get help with access to health care, safe housing, special education and other services essential to their well-being.

Freed hopes the generosity of the community will continue as Freed to Run strives to raise over $1 million in the next five years. Stay tuned for Freed to Run 3.0...
