Florida Governor-elect Ron DeSantis recently announced several appointments to various cabinet positions as the transition to the Governor's mansion continues. Among those appointments, DeSantis selected Gunster government affairs and appellate law attorney Simone Marstiller to head the Department of Juvenile Justice.
In this role, Marstiller will oversee the department whose mission is to increase public safety by reducing juvenile delinquency through effective prevention, intervention and treatment services that strengthen families and turn around the lives of troubled youth.
“Few people have the leadership experience and government expertise to match Simone Marstiller,” stated DeSantis in his announcement. “Simone is among the most talented and experienced professionals that our state has to offer, and I am proud to have her join the administration as the secretary of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. She’s established an exceptional record of professional accomplishment and I look forward to working with her to further improve our state’s juvenile justice system.”
Prior to Gunster, Marstiller served as a judge for Florida’s 1st District Court of Appeal. In her many years of service to the state of Florida, she has also served as assistant general counsel to former Gov. Jeb Bush, secretary of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation and deputy attorney general, as well as executive director of the Florida Elections Commission.
Various news outlets throughout the state have covered the appointment of Marstiller. The full stories can be read at the following links:
