WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 26, 2017) – Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is pleased to announce that land use attorney Heidi Davis Knapik, a shareholder in the firm's Fort Lauderdale office, received a 2017 Leadership Award for her service on the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance’s Leadership Council. The award was presented at the GFLA annual meeting on Oct. 19.

Davis Knapik was selected for the award based on her years of service with the GFLA, her leadership role as chair and co-chair of the Leadership Council, and for spearheading the council’s economic development mission last year to Austin, Texas, which provided valuable insight into Austin’s economy, business culture, and quality of life.

Davis Knapik, who has been actively involved on the GFLA's Leadership Council for six years, and has served on the GFLA’s executive board, board of directors, and foundation board, was one of six leadership award honorees in 2017:

  • Partner Council − Ric Green, Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce
  • Entrepreneurship Council − Russell Weaver, Nai Rauch Weaver Norfleet Kurtz
  • Corporate Council − Rich Ducharme, Sapoznik Insurance
  • Leadership Council − Heidi Davis Knapik, Gunster
  • Governor Council − Lonnie Maier, Fibernet Direct
  • CEO Council − Penny Shaffer, Florida Blue

GFLA's Leadership Council focuses on business climate advocacy in the region, tackling issues such as transportation, homelessness, and more.

Davis Knapik has more than 20 years of experience of legal experience on complex land use, zoning and development issues, and has acted as land use counsel on some of the most significant projects throughout Broward County.

In 2018, she will lead the South Florida chapter of NAIOP Commercial Real Estate Development Association as president. NAIOP is one of the largest commercial real estate organizations in South Florida providing advocacy, education and business networking opportunities for commercial real estate development professionals.
