Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, announced that Katie Edwards-Walpole has joined the firm’s real property practice as an of counsel attorney in its West Palm Beach office.
Edwards-Walpole served as Executive Director of the Dade County Farm Bureau from 2003 to 2010, shortly before her election to the Florida House of Representatives where she represented parts of Broward for six years. Her ability to navigate controversial and complex legal and policy issues enabled her to pass significant legislation in the areas of private property rights protection, customary use of beachfront property, medical marijuana, sentencing reform, harm reduction and environmental permitting.
“I chose Gunster for its incredible bench of talented attorneys and lobbyists, many of whom I have interacted with over the years professionally and politically. I’m thrilled with the opportunities for collaboration and commitment to the highest legal and ethical standards that Gunster provides,” remarked Edwards-Walpole whose clients span the agribusiness spectrum, from equestrian operations, sod farmers, cattle ranches, plant nurseries and aquaculture.
“Katie’s extensive agricultural knowledge and government background in Florida will play a critical factor in helping our clients navigate the state’s development, permitting and regulatory processes, said Bill Perry, CEO and managing shareholder of Gunster. “We are thrilled she values Gunster’s full-service platform and expect her expertise to supplement our already well-established attorneys within the same legal space.”
Outside of her private practice, Edwards-Walpole remains active in Plantation where her family has owned and operated a pest control and fumigation business for over six decades. She currently chairs the City of Plantation’s Affordable Housing Advisory Committee and was recently elected to the Board of Directors of Temple Kol Ami Emanu-El.
A Florida native, Edwards earned her B.S. from Clemson University and a law degree from Florida International University.
