Press Release

Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is pleased to announce the addition of Beatriz "Betty" Miranda and Alexandria "Alex" Kernan to its Labor & Employment Law and Government Affairs Law & Lobbying practices, respectively.

Gunster attorney Beatriz Miranda

Betty Miranda joined Gunster as an attorney in the firm's Tampa office, where she represents clients in litigation matters and assists clients in managing the employment relationship. Betty previously served as a federal judicial law clerk for The Honorable Anthony E. Porcelli in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. She also served as a law clerk for The Honorable Jonathan D. Gerber in the Florida Fourth District Court of Appeal. In addition to her rich judiciary background, Betty gained experience working at a labor and employment boutique law firm where she represented public and private sector employers in matters related to labor and employment law in conducting investigations into claims of harassment and discrimination, handling disputes involving non-competition agreements, collective actions, and labor arbitrations, among other matters.

Betty received her J.D. from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and a B.A. in Political Science and B.S. in Family, Youth and Community Services from the University of Florida.

Gunster consultant Alex Kernan

Alex Kernan joined the firm's Tallahassee office as a Government Affairs Consultant. With over a decade of legislative, executive, and political experience, Alex focuses on client support in legislative and public policy, as well as providing clients with guidance on the integration of government relations, communications, and issue management. Prior to joining Gunster, Alex served as the Director of Legislative and Government Affairs at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) where she assisted with legislative strategy for Florida’s five water management districts. In that role, she worked with the Governor's office and leadership team to pass Florida’s top environmental priorities, including the passage of landmark environmental legislation such as Florida’s “Clean Waterways Act” and HB 1379. She also successfully secured historic levels of state funding for FDEP, including over $3 billion for water quality and nearly $1 billion for land acquisition. Prior to her time at FDEP, Alex served as the Deputy Communications Director at the Florida Department of Revenue, and as Legislative Assistant and Communications Director for Senator Dennis Baxley.

Alex earned her B.A. in Political Science from the University of Florida.
