Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is pleased to announce that Latour “LT” Lafferty has joined the firm’s Business Litigation practice in its Tampa office.
Lafferty focuses his practice on white collar criminal defense/litigation, corporate internal investigations, False Claims Act (FCA) qui tam litigation, healthcare fraud and abuse, criminal tax fraud and State of Florida Code of Ethics complaints against public officials.
Lafferty is skilled in representing organizations and individual clients within both federal and state regulatory enforcement investigations and litigation, including grand jury investigations, subpoena responses and productions, search warrants, internal corporate investigations, parallel civil and administrative litigation, arbitration and mediation, corporate compliance and ethics and voluntary disclosures. He also represents clients in business torts litigation such as fraud, civil theft, breach of fiduciary duty and theft of trade secrets.

Prior to joining Gunster, Lafferty spent over a decade as both a criminal and civil federal prosecutor. He worked as an Assistant United States Attorney in Tampa, a special prosecutor in the Office of Independent Counsel (for matters involving Whitewater and Monica Lewinsky), an Ethics Advisor to the Office of the Counsel to President George W. Bush and as a Commissioner for the Florida Commission on Ethics from 2006 to 2008. From 1993 to 1995, Lafferty clerked for the Honorable John H. Moore II, Chief Judge of the United States Middle District of Florida.
Lafferty is a member of several professional associations and memberships, notably the American Bar Association, American Health Lawyers Association, the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Health Care Compliance Association, among others.
Well-recognized by the legal community, Lafferty has received over a dozen honors and awards, including twice earning corporate compliance lawyer of the year in The Best Lawyers in America guide, as well as features in Chambers USA’s America’s Leading Business Lawyers guide, Florida Super Lawyers where he was recognized for being in the Top 50 litigators and Florida Trend’s Legal Elite guide.
Lafferty earned his J.D. from the Stetson University College of Law and a B.A. from the University of Florida. He also earned a Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Corporate Compliance from The George Washington University and a Graduate Certificate in Health Management and Leadership from the University of South Florida.
