WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 30, 2016) – Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is pleased to announce that Gunster attorney Keith E. Sonderling has been reappointed to the Judicial Nominating Commission for the 4th District Court of Appeal by Governor Rick Scott. Additionally, Sonderling was elected by his peers to serve as chair of the commission through 2017.
Sonderling was first appointed to the commission in 2012 for a term through July 2016. In July, Gov. Scott reappointed Sonderling to the commission for a term beginning July 12, 2016, through July 1, 2020. Sonderling previously served as the commission's vice chair, before being elected as its chair.
Judicial Nominating Commissions are nine-member groups appointed by the governor who locate, recruit, investigate and evaluate applicants for judicial office vacancies. Commission members submit three to six names of the most highly qualified applicants to the governor, who makes the final selection from the list.
Appeals of trial court verdicts are reviewed by three-judge panels in one of five district courts of appeal, depending on the court’s geographical location. The 4th District Court of Appeal is based in West Palm Beach and covers the following circuit courts: 15th (Palm Beach County), 17th (Broward County) and 19th (Martin, Indian River, St. Lucie and Okeechobee counties).
Sonderling focuses his practice on defending corporations and protecting their business interests in labor and employment, complex commercial disputes, and litigation. An AV-rated attorney, he has been recognized by Florida Super Lawyers as a “Rising Star,” Florida Trend's Legal Elite as an “Up and Comer,” Boca Life Magazine’s 40 under 40, and South Florida Business & Wealth magazine’s Up and Comers.
