Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is pleased to announce Peter J. Sheptak as the firm’s newest shareholder in the West Palm Beach office. Sheptak will be a member of the firm’s Corporate practice, and will also work closely with the firm’s Private Wealth Services group. Sheptak is a legal veteran in the Florida family office industry with a successful track record of working with founder- and family-owned businesses and helping guide them through the complexities of today’s business, planning and investment environment.
Sheptak offers more than three decades of hands-on and cultivated skill in working with and advising clients on mergers and acquisitions, private equity and hedge fund investing, co-investments, direct investments, complex investment structures, corporate finance, and myriad other family business and family office-related matters. Most recently, he spent nearly 18 years at a large Florida-based company that is owned and operated by a single family. He managed the legal and structural aspects of the company’s M&A activity, hedge fund and private equity investing, direct and co-investing, corporate diversification and finance and treasury functions, and collaborated closely with senior management and the family to establish the foundation and structure of investment programs.
Sheptak’s focus at Gunster will be to formalize a dedicated family office practice that works cohesively with the firm’s industry-leading private wealth, tax, corporate, real estate and other practice areas to realize bigger picture client goals in terms of family office matters, investing, diversification, wealth preservation and planning. Simultaneously, he will serve as outside counsel for family offices and family-owned businesses.
“Peter’s extensive knowledge and insight on the nuanced challenges and opportunities that permeate daily operations in the family office and family business sector benefits both our clients and attorneys tremendously,” said Bill Perry, Gunster’s managing shareholder. “His subject matter expertise is a key component of our corporate and private wealth practices and will deeply strengthen our position as a leader in family office law and invigorate our commitment to provide integrated solutions to our clients statewide.”
Sheptak earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Notre Dame and his law degree at the Duquesne University School of Law.
