Press Release

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 25, 2019) –  Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, today announced that Jonathan Kent Osborne has re-joined the firm as a shareholder in the business litigation group. Osborne began his legal career at Gunster before spending more than four years as a federal prosecutor. He will leverage his government experience and knowledge of the federal system to grow the white-collar criminal defense and government investigation defense practices.

Gunster attorney Jonathan Kent Osborne“Jonathan was an exemplary attorney during his initial tenure at the firm and we are thrilled to welcome him back as a shareholder. His precise expertise and deep understanding of the federal judicial system will be invaluable to our business litigation clients,” said Bill Perry, managing shareholder of Gunster. “Companies are increasingly conducting business overseas and Jonathan’s experience with financial regulators adds value across multiple practice areas for our clients, especially when navigating regulation promulgated by Treasury.”

Osborne was an associate at Gunster from 2011 to 2014 and left to become a federal prosecutor, serving in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, where he prosecuted and investigated more than one hundred federal crimes, including bankruptcy, tax, and wire fraud, currency and computer violations, identity theft, human smuggling, narcotics trafficking and violent offenses. In 2016, he transitioned to the International Narcotics and Money Laundering Section as a member of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force. As a task force prosecutor, Osborne worked with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies and financial regulators, including the Office of Foreign Assets Control and FinCEN.

Through his time at the United States Attorney’s Office, Osborne earned extensive trial and litigation experience and handled multiple matters before the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. His experience with financial investigations in particular will be instrumental in serving domestic clients doing business outside of the United States or foreign clients entering the U.S. market. He will also focus on labor and employment, tax and white-collar cases.

Deeply committed to giving back to the community, in 2015 Osborne founded a mentorship program with the legal academy magnet programs at Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial High School and Coral Reef Senior High School in Miami that equips students with tools for success in the legal and law enforcement fields. He also served as a Youth Empowerment Program mentor for Habitat for Humanity of Broward County from 2013 to 2017 and currently sits as a board member of the Children’s Bereavement Center in south Florida.

Osborne earned his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center. He also holds an M.A. in Communication Studies from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and B.A. in Justice from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, and competed on both universities’ basketball teams.
