WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (March 18, 2015) – Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is pleased to announce Meredith I. Biggs and Matthew J. Scheer have been hired as attorneys in the West Palm Beach office.
Biggs joins Gunster’s labor and employment practice as an associate with years of experience as a prosecutor and with knowledge in labor and employment litigation and counseling.
Scheer is an associate in Gunster’s tax practice. He advises clients on federal income tax issues, including corporate and partnership tax matters as well as wealth transfer taxes. He also counsels clients on how to structure transactions to maximize financial needs and personal goals. Scheer also works with tax exempt organizations.
Biggs, who graduated second in her class from Liberty University School of Law, focuses her practice on resolving employment disputes, including claims involving Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act regarding discrimination or sexual harassment, Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) as well as non-compete agreements and contract disputes, among other issues. She also advises clients on employment matters related to the hiring and firing of an employee.
Scheer attended the University of Florida where he earned his J.D. and is anticipated to earn his LL.M. in May. While earning his J.D., he was involved with multiple moot courts and the Florida Journal of International Law. Scheer named to the dean’s list for each of his semesters during law school. Prior to joining Gunster, Scheer interned for a U.S. senator, a U.S. magistrate judge, multiple law firms and the New York Yankees.
Beyond her legal work, Biggs is a member of the Palm Beach County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division and has served as a volunteer for the Alliance for Freedom, Restoration and Justice and as a volunteer for Belle Glade Life Center.
With the addition of Biggs, Gunster strengthens its already robust labor and employment practice led by Gunster attorneys Joseph G. Santoro and G. Joseph Curley.
In Gunster’s tax practice, which welcomes Scheer, attorneys structure complex transactions that maximize tax efficiencies and minimize tax burdens. The tax practice is led by James B. Davis.
