JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 22, 2018) – Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, today announced that Asghar Syed has joined the firm as a shareholder focusing on complex commercial litigation. He will be in the firm’s Jacksonville office with the business litigation and labor and employment practice groups.
"Asghar is a rising star in Jacksonville, both from a professional and civic perspective. He’s an excellent lawyer, an outstanding community trustee, and a really great person. Asghar is exactly the kind of person we look for at Gunster and we’re thrilled to have him join our team,” said Bill Adams, managing shareholder of Gunster’s Jacksonville office.
Prior to joining the firm, Syed served as a shareholder for another Jacksonville firm where he prosecuted and defended a wide range of legal claims such as high-stakes fraud, environmental and corporate governance disputes, represented employers faced with charges of discrimination or retaliation, and assisted management in developing and implementing policies and procedures that are designed to reduce the company's exposure to the risks associated with workplace disputes.
Deeply rooted in Jacksonville, Syed sits on the boards for Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville and the Jacksonville Bar Association. Additionally, Syed was a member of the business development committee for JAXUSA Partnership, the economic development arm of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce that is tasked with helping businesses relocate or expand to Jacksonville. With a commitment to the Muslim-American community, he is involved with fundraising efforts for a documentary on the local organization, Muslim American Social Services (MASS). Previously, Syed co-founded TEDxJacksonville, a program featuring Jacksonville’s leading thinkers and doers whose mission is to open minds with inspiring ideas.
Syed’s civic contributions and impressive career landed him a spot on the Jacksonville Business Journal’s 40 under 40 list. He earned his JD and MBA from the University of Florida and his B.S. from the University of Massachusetts at Boston.
