JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 4, 2019) – Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, has added Michael G. Tanner as a shareholder in the firm’s Jacksonville office, where he will bring greater depth and experience to its business litigation practice.
Tanner joins Gunster with over 30 years of legal experience and maintains a strong reputation as one of the most accomplished business litigators in North Florida. He has been a mainstay in leadership positions of major legal bodies, including the Florida Bar Board of Governors, and received distinguished industry recognition for his accomplishments. Tanner is a board certified business and civil trial litigator, a distinction that is rare in the legal profession.
At Gunster, Tanner will continue his focus on business trials and litigation, appellate for both state and federal courts, election law, anti-trust lawsuits, class action lawsuits and professional malpractice. He is also well-connected in Tallahassee and will boost Gunster’s commercial litigation reach into the state capital for key clients.
“There is a tremendous growth opportunity for Gunster to expand our commercial litigation practice from Jacksonville across the I-10 corridor,” said Bill Perry, managing shareholder of Gunster. “Mike is a world-class litigator who boasts unique certifications and specializations that separate him from his peers in the industry. This continues Gunster’s tradition of attracting top talent to the firm.”
A leader in the legal community, Tanner is completing his eighth year on The Florida Bar Board of Governors, representing the 4th Judicial Circuit. He has served as president of the American Board of Trial Advocates and chair of The Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization and Education. In 2012, he was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He received the Justice Harry Lee Anstead Award in 2010 for The Florida Bar Board Certified Lawyer of the Year, just one of many elite distinctions he has received.
Tanner holds a J.D. from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and an A.B. in Economics from Davidson College.
