Gunster, one of Florida's oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is pleased to announce that shareholder Joe Jacquot has been named chair of the transition team for newly appointed Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier. Jacquot, a business litigation attorney and former General Counsel to Governor Ron DeSantis, was previously the Chief Deputy Attorney General of Florida from 2007-2011.
The transition team will provide advice and related feedback to the Attorney General as he prepares to take office and implement his vision for the state's legal affairs. The team will also help identify and recruit top talent for key positions in the office, as well as review and recommend policies and priorities on various legal issues affecting Florida.
Having served as General Counsel to the Governor, Jacquot was responsible for all litigation and legal matters of the Governor and state executive agencies, handling cases before federal and state courts, including arguing several matters before the Florida Supreme Court. He oversaw the Governor's judicial appointment process, which resulted in seating five justices to the Florida Supreme Court and more than 100 judges to lower courts. Previously as Florida's Chief Deputy Attorney General, Jacquot successfully argued before the U.S. Supreme Court in a Miranda rights case.
"I am honored to serve on the transition team for Attorney General Uthmeier, who is a champion for the rule of law," Jacquot said. "I look forward to working with him and the talented attorneys on the team to ensure a successful transition."
Jacquot earned his J.D. from University of Florida Levin College of Law and B.A. from University of Virginia. He also served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. He is a member of Gunster’s Business Litigation practice and co-chairs the firm’s Appellate Law group.
