WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Apr. 22, 2019 - Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is pleased to announce the addition of Gregory S. Rix as a shareholder in the firm’s Tampa office, where he will join its real property practice with a focus on eminent domain and property rights.
Rix enters the firm with decades of legal and real estate appraisal experience. He has managed all aspects of hundreds of eminent domain cases from inception to trial to appeal across the state of Florida. His client base is diverse and exhaustive, including class-A office buildings and shopping centers along with single-family homes and cattle ranches. At Gunster, he will continue his eminent domain and property rights practice, including representation of owners and businesses.
“Greg’s extensive and varied experience in eminent domain, along with his background as a certified real estate appraiser, is a strong addition to this practice and benefits our current and future clients,” said Bill Perry, managing shareholder of Gunster. “He has a solid record of industry-leading work for clients large and small, and with Gunster’s statewide reach, we are positioned to deliver unrivaled representation to clients in all corners of Florida.”
Rix brings a knowledgeable background to his trade on top of his legal experience. He served for eight years as a real estate appraiser focused on eminent domain cases and testified as an expert witness in eminent domain cases prior to attending law school. His unique qualification serves his current clients beyond the scope of what most similar attorneys can provide. At Gunster, he will also collaborate with the environmental and land use and real estate practices.
Well-regarded in the legal community, Rix has several notable recognitions to his name. He has received the AV Preeminent Rating from Martindale Hubbell and the Super Lawyers distinction from Thomson Reuters every year since 2011. He was named Tampa Bay’s Lawyer of the Year for Eminent Domain in 2015 by Woodward/White, which has also named him to its annual Best Lawyers in America list 11 times since 2008.
Rix is a member of the Florida Bar Association’s eminent domain committee and has served as an eminent domain section co-chair of the Hillsborough County Bar Association since 2017. He also became a certified Florida circuit civil mediator in 2018. Outside of the legal field, he sat for eight years on the Spring of Tampa Bay Board of Directors, including chair of the Board in 2015, and served on the Board of Trustees for St. John’s Episcopal Church and St. John’s Episcopal Parish Day School from 2015 to 2018, where he has volunteered in various roles since 1995.
