Yesterday, Gunster secured a victory for CNN when it successfully defended against Alan Dershowitz’s $300 million defamation suit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Gunster Chairman and Former U.S. Senator George LeMieux and Shareholder Eric Edison led the Gunster team as co-counsel, along with Katherine Bolger and her team at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP.
As detailed in Law360, the Court found "no evidence showing CNN acted with reckless disregard for the truth in covering Dershowitz's defense of then-President Donald Trump's impeachment trial."
CNN was granted summary judgment, which ends the lawsuit that Dershowitz filed in 2020.
For more than twenty years, George LeMieux has been lead trial counsel in federal and state courts, in civil and regulatory matters, before juries, judges and arbitrators. He has argued cases before the United States Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of Florida, and Florida’s intermediate appellate courts. George served as Florida’s 34th United States Senator in the 111th Congress.
Eric Edison is a shareholder, who has experience litigating complex commercial litigation actions including breach of contract, business torts, banking and financial institution litigation, shareholder and partnership disputes, breach of fiduciary duty, unfair trade practices, landlord-tenant, probate, employment and real property litigation before circuit, appellate, and federal courts throughout the State of Florida. He also has managed and defended claims against Broward County municipalities, Florida’s largest independent institution of higher education, and represented public officials before the Florida Elections Commission.
