WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (April 19, 2019) – Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is pleased to announce that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has selected the firm to participate in his initiative entitled “Lawyers Assisting Warriors (LAW).”

Gunster tapped by Gov. DeSantis for military pro bono initiativeThe LAW initiative will draw from the talent of Florida’s major law firms to provide pro bono legal services for military members. The law firms designated by the governor include Gunster, Greenberg Traurig, Holland & Knight, and Shutts & Bowen.

“Our military is part of the lifeblood of Florida. It is important to take care of our military members and assist them with access to legal services,” said George S. LeMieux, chairman of the board of Gunster. “Our firm wholeheartedly believes in supporting the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces across Florida and we are honored to have been invited by Governor DeSantis to participate in this worthy initiative.”

In its initial stage the program will focus on providing legal representation to active duty members in limited civil matters, such as landlord/tenant disputes, debt payment issues, wills, trusts, and consumer fraud cases.  In a later phase, the program may expand its scope to provide legal services to veterans.

DeSantis announced the initiative on Apr. 18 during a visit to the Armament Museum at Eglin Air Force Base. LeMieux joined the governor for the announcement.
