WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (June 26, 2015) – Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is pleased to announce that shareholder James B. Davis has been appointed president of the Planned Giving Council of Broward for the 2015-16 term. Davis previously served as vice president and programs director for the council, and he succeeds Paul Keefe as president.
Davis leads Gunster’s tax law practice. He has been practicing law since 1975. His experience includes ERISA and employee benefits law, estate planning, transactional business tax law, corporate and business law, and health care related counsel.
He currently is an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law in its Master of Laws (LLM) degree program. Davis also currently serves on the board of directors for the Community Foundation of Broward.
The Planned Giving Council of Broward County is a not-for-profit corporation created in response to a need for the dissemination of information and the development of expertise in the field of charitable planned giving. The council:
- Offers an educational forum in the many technical aspects, marketing strategies and implementation procedures of an effective planned giving program.
- Provides the vehicle for networking of local professionals in the planned giving process.
- Promotes increased charitable giving from the general public this providing a financial resource for bettering our community.
At Gunster, Davis counsels individuals and businesses on ERISA and employee benefits law, corporate, partnership and business law/taxation and estate planning in connection with the formation, operation, merger and liquidation of for-profit entities as well as tax-exempt organizations. Davis is board certified in taxation by the Florida Bar, a frequent lecturer, and has served as an expert witness as to the qualification of pension plans in bankruptcy cases and in civil litigation matters.
