Gunster attorney Fernando DiazGunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, today announced that Fernando Diaz has joined the firm’s Real Property practice as of counsel at its Fort Lauderdale office. 

Experienced in transactions, compliance, and litigation, Diaz brings a 360-degree perspective in helping clients mitigate and resolve environmental risks and disputes. With his specialty in the complex environmental issues that arise in transactions, Diaz advises clients on risk allocation, environmental due diligence, provisions in purchase, sale and financing agreements, and environmental insurance. He also helps clients with annexations, site plans, comprehensive plan amendments, rezonings and large-scale master plan approvals.

Diaz strives to be a trusted resource for clients in environmental compliance and contamination matters, including remediation, enforcement defense and litigation. Well-versed in the many federal and state environmental laws impacting businesses, properties, property owners and tenants, he has also played a role in representing clients before the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Justice, and state regulators, including planning, land use and zoning boards, architectural review boards, historic preservation boards, municipal councils, and county commissions.

Diaz’s position at Gunster is bolstered by his experience advising Fortune 500 companies in areas that include: compliance and enforcement defense relating to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), litigation arising from the $1 billion clean-up of the Fox River Superfund Site, where he obtained a nine-figure confidential settlement, and advisement of a multinational managed healthcare and insurance company regarding environmental aspects of its acquisition in a deal valued in excess of $600 million.

Diaz received his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law and B.A. from the University of Florida.
