WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Aug. 2, 2019) – Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is pleased to announce that Mike Freed has been named the recipient of the 2019 Fran Peacock Coker Community Service Award by the Florida Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (FLABOTA).
“I am honored to be considered worthy of such a prestigious recognition and am grateful to be part of a firm that encourages community service,” said Freed regarding the honor.
The annual award is bestowed to an individual, lawyer or non-lawyer, whose dedication to the community exemplifies the character, commitment and accomplishments of Fran Peacock Coker. Freed was honored on July 26 during the 22nd Annual FLABOTA Conference – where, for the first time in the state organization’s history, every award went to an attorney from Jacksonville.
Freed is a Florida Bar board certified litigator who is active in speaking out through various forums in support of legal aid for the indigent, and collaborating within the non-profit community. In 2017, Freed launched “Freed to Run” where he ran six marathons in six days to benefit Jacksonville Area Legal Aid – a non-profit dedicated to providing free civil legal assistance to those who could not otherwise afford it. The inaugural event raised nearly $70,000, and Freed to Run 2.0 raised over $400,000. The annual event is now in its third year and is scheduled to take place in December 2019. Proceeds from each year will go toward a planned $2.25 million endowment for the Northeast Florida Medical Legal Partnership.
