WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 15, 2016) – Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is pleased to announce that Joseph L. Raia, a shareholder in its Miami office, was named an officer and a member of the executive committee for the American Bar Association’s Section of International Law.

Gunster attorney Joe RaiaGunster shareholder Joseph L. Raia represents foreign and domestic individuals and companies in court proceedings, government investigations, and arbitrations relating to commercial, trade and investment matters.

As revenue officer, Raia will direct and implement section policies vis-à-vis securing all non-due revenue, including those raised via sponsorship, programs and publications. A former division chair and committee chair for the section, Raia has contributed to ABA policy and comparative work on multiple legal and policy issues.

The ABA Section of International Law develops policy in the international arena, promoting the rule of law and the education of international law practitioners, and has approximately 20,000 members. See its 2016-17 Leadership Directory for more information.

Raia’s other leadership positions include past service on the board of directors for the Italy America Chamber of Commerce Southeast, a member of the Italian government’s Assocamerestero network. Raia is a member of the international advisory committee of the Beacon Council, the economic development agency for Miami-Dade County, Florida. He frequently speaks on matters relating to international dispute resolution.

Raia replaces Adam B. Farlow of Baker & McKenzie in London, who served as executive committee revenue officer for the ABA Section of International Law from 2015-16.
