The Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, originally created to fight organized crime, has been expanded over the years as a tool to fight fraud.
Gunster commercial trial lawyer William K. Hill spoke to Florida Record about the use of RICO to litigate claims of fraud.
In the article, Hill mentions that it's not uncommon for private companies to use RICO – but the business must show an organized, concerted effort of fraud in order to do so.
