Florida Trend interviewed Gunster attorney Lila A. Jaber recently for a special section on Florida's telecom business published in its February 2016 issue.

"Economic Backbone: Florida's telecom industry" (pp. 20-25) covers telecom trends; tax breaks; service niches; new technology; and local industry players, ranked by number of subscriptions. It's also chock-full of enlightening industry statistics for the state.

Mergers and acquisitions between Florida telecommunication companies and outside firms is trending, Jaber says in the magazine. She mentions several deals, including Frontier Communications' acquisition of Verizon's wire-line assets in Florida, and Charter Communications' purchase of Brighthouse Networks' Florida cable and home phone service assets.

Jaber also points out in the publication that the Florida Legislature's recent reductions in telecom taxes are a really big deal – good for businesses and consumers.

And, despite the growing volume of wireless users in Florida and the nation, there is room for land-line providers at the table, she indicates in the magazine.

Prior to leading Gunster's government affairs law and lobbying practice, Jaber served two terms on Florida’s Public Service Commission as commissioner and chair, overseeing the state’s implementation of economic regulatory policy and procedure for the energy, natural gas, water and telecommunications industries.
