2016 Immigration Alert

On March 31, 2016 United States Citizenship and Immigration Services advised that until further notice, employers should continue using the current version of the employment eligibility verification form I-9 (03/08/13 edition) even after the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) control number expiration date of March 31, 2016, has passed. The form I-9 edition number is found in the bottom left corner of the form I-9 and instructions. The OMB control number is found in the top right corner of the first page of the form I-9 and Instructions.

The USCIS website states that previous editions of the form I-9 are not acceptable and that a new edition of the form I-9 is coming soon. USCIS states that it will provide updated information about the new version of form I-9 as it becomes available.

Employers must complete form I-9 for all newly hired employees to verify their identity and authorization to work in the U.S.
