Overview
Mary Kathryn (“MK”) King is an associate attorney in Gunster’s Labor and Employment practice group. She strives to resolve client matters with careful research, creative problem-solving strategies, and a personal touch. Her practice covers a wide variety of employment law issues, including contracts, personnel policies, prevention and defense of discrimination and wage/hour claims, nondisclosure and noncompetition agreements, garnishments, and litigation.
MK is a former assistant state attorney for Florida’s Fourth Judicial Circuit. She draws upon her courtroom experience in representing Gunster’s clients in litigation.
MK is a graduate of the Florida State University College of Law where she earned membership in the Order of the Coif and served on both the Florida State University Law Review and the Journal of Land Use and Environmental Law. At FSU Law, she also served as a research assistant to Professor Nat S. Stern and received four book awards. MK earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Florida with majors in English and Political Science, and minors in Russian and Spanish. At UF, she was a National Merit Scholar and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Florida Blue Key. She also was named a UF Outstanding Four-Year Scholar and was active in Phi Mu Fraternity.
MK is passionate about education, public service, and cross-cultural learning. She has working proficiencies in Russian, Spanish, Georgian and Latin. For academic year 2016-17, MK served as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant at Samtskhe-Javakheti State University in Akhaltsikhe, in the Eurasian country of Georgia. During her Fulbright year, MK taught English as a second language, experienced Georgian culture, and braved her first winter outside of Florida.
